Synopsis: Alex and Conner Bailey's world is about to change, in this fast-paced adventure that uniquely combines our modern day world with the enchanting realm of classic fairy tales. The Land of Stories tells the tale of twins Alex and Conner. Through the mysterious powers of a cherished book of stories, they leave their world behind and find themselves in a foreign land full of wonder and magic where they come face-to-face with the fairy tale characters they grew up reading about. But after a series of encounters with witches, wolves, goblins, and trolls alike, getting back home is going to be harder than they thought.

***

Alex and Conner Bailey were twins. They both had different personality but possessed similar interest in adventures. One day, their grandmother, who used to travel a lot, gave them a book, typical story book in which their grandmother always brought along in each trip. Alex kept the book by her since she loved to read. Fortunately, Alex found out that the book, her grandmother gave, was not just a book. It was an enchanted book, a magic portal to another world called Land of Stories. There, Alex and Conner, who accidentally fell into the book together, experienced unusual yet magical adventures.

However, far from the fairy tales they used to heard in real world, Land of Stories was full of unexpected things. Somehow, it made Bailey Twins wanted to go back to the real world. Despite that, the only way to go back to the real world was by using wishing spell. This kind of spell was not easy to accomplish because it required various magical things to collect. Chasing after magical things was very adventurous for both Alex and Conner. Even they endangered their own lives. Aside from that, Alex and Conner also made friends with some creatures in the Land of Stories. However, not all of them were truly kind and sincere. Some of them were just too tricky to be trusted.

Though, Land of Stories were very tempting for them since it felt like long lost home. They found it comfortable to live in. Could Alex and Conner accomplish their task to get back to the real world? Whereas, the further they went the wider the secrets they revealed about themselves.

To my mind, The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer becomes my favorite book to read, especially in my leisure time. This book offers nice fairy-tale retelling. It even digs deeper on the story that might happen behind infamous fairy tales. It brings a lot of excitement for me since I love reading fairy tales and I love reading children book.

The main characters involved in this book are Alex Bailey, Conner Bailey, and some infamous fairy tale characters. Alex Bailey is described as a curious yet intelligent girl who loves adventure so much. In the real world, she mostly gets bullied by her friends for being intelligent yet weird. On the contrary, Conner Bailey, his brother, is a quite dumb and lazy boy. But, he is very skillful at some matters. Both of them are perfect match for an adventurous team.

The book takes setting in both real world (USA) and fairy tale world (Land of Stories)

The conflicts shown in this are book mostly about the main characters' effort to get back to the real world. On the other hand, the main characters also face very unusual yet magical adventures which are very new for them to experience.

The plot is very easy to follow. It runs smoothly. Perhaps, it is because the book is typical children book. Aside from that, there are some surprising parts we can find in this book.

In my honest opinion, this book is very recommended for readers any age. Even though it is children book which contains plenty imagination but it is worth reading. Particularly for those who love fairy tales, this book can be a good book to digest. The story is tempting but easy to follow. Moreover, the adventurous story makes me wanna read the sequel as soon as possible.

Rating: 4 out of 5 crowns

~Happy Reading~
